The Poems - Judgement Day 30th September

POEM 1 - Young Entrepreneur

At school once when I was little
Clutching a blue colored pencil
Poking around in one earhole
Relieving an irksome itch there
The end bit abruptly broke off it
And deep down inside the lump went.

After only three days it got painful
Mother dragged me off to a doctor
"And what’s this in ear?" he sniggered
Aiming his syringe full of water
Swilling me out with a strong squirt
"It looks like a small lump of metal!"

We looked at the specimen closely
Rubbed, and tapped and scratched it
To me too, it did look like metal
An impressive new chemical process?
It could be my very first patent
And I would be seriously wealthy

All those little boys and pencils
Waiting for me to exploit them
Then I thought about the downside
All the problems of communication
And my limited output of earwax

Might chemically just be unique

POEM 2The Princess Briseis (Brisayiss)

The Princess Briseis was an elegant cat.
Not too big, not too small, not too thin, nor too fat
A pretty Princess with her coat of dark cream
Paws, tail and face , chocolatiest brown ever seen.

Her eyes were as blue as the bluest of seas
and her whiskers magnificent, everyone agrees,
she would spend simply hours just preening and cleaning
to keep looking her best and smiling, and beaming

She lived high in the sky in her tower of bright blue
And on a clear day, I believe she sees you
She’ll watch as you play and she’ll watch as you sleep
and purr with contentment when you don’t make a peep.

She would watch all the workmen, working so hard
To clear all the rubbish from out of the yard
She’d watch all the fishermen, way out to sea
Bringing home fish, fresh fish for her tea

She’d smile as she watched when the children would play
She enjoys watching people, she could do it all day
She liked it when people would show they were kind
A good heart today is so hard to find

Like you, after lunch she would take a nice kip
And into sweet dreamland she would quietly slip
Dreaming of meadows, of butterflies so small
But sometimes she’d dream she was playing football!

She watches the fire engine go rushing by
With blue lights a-flashing and siren a-cry
The emergency services so great to have
Those who work for them so wonderfully brave

With those who are caring, she’s as gentle can be
And she’ll repay your kindness, as you clearly see
We should all be so loving to all creatures on Earth
And be nice to each other, for all that you’re worth

Briseis was wise, and was awfully smart
But more than all this, she had a good heart
She’d hate to see people or animals distressed
Being kind to all, she would do her best

And as the sun sets beyond the tall tower
She’d wait by her bowl, dinner in half an hour
She would smile to herself for what she did see

Was that life was so wonderful, just as it should be.
